The journey to becoming a dentist is rigorous and demanding, filled with years of education, exams, and clinical training. As you enter your first year of practice, you may find that the challenges are far from over. Finding the Right Place to Work

  • The job market can be competitive with more graduates and fewer dentists retiring.
  • Large corporate entities may lack a supportive culture; consider practices like CDP that value new dentists.

Financial Reality Check

  • New dentists often face significant student loan debt.
  • Look for competitive compensation and benefits packages. CDP offers an average first-year salary range of $180,000 to $210,000!

Location, Location, Location!

  • Consider rural and underserved areas for better growth opportunities and community integration.
  • Urban areas may be oversaturated, making patient acquisition more challenging.

Seek Out Mentors

  • Mentorship is crucial for developing treatment planning and leadership skills.
  • Look for practices that provide strong mentorship programs to guide you in your early years.

Working with Patients Is Hard

  • Multitasking and time management are essential skills in practice.
  • Be prepared for challenging patients and learn effective conflict management strategies.

Earning Patient Trust

  • Develop a strategy for addressing patient concerns about your experience.
  • Invest in communication skills to build trust and enhance patient relationships.
