Benefits of Working with a DSO

When choosing a DSO, consider how well their values align with yours and how they can support your career aspirations.

Navigating the complexities of dental practice ownership can be challenging for both new graduates and experienced professionals. Dental Service Organizations (DSOs) provide crucial support by handling non-clinical tasks, allowing dentists to focus on patient care. As DSOs have evolved, understanding the various options available is essential for choosing the right career path. Whether you’re a dental student exploring opportunities or an experienced dentist looking to reduce administrative work, knowing the benefits of working with a DSO can help you find the best fit for your needs.

What is a DSO?

  • DSOs were created in the 1990s to alleviate administrative burdens for dentists.
  • They handle non-clinical aspects like payroll, compliance, and personnel management.
  • The DSO model has expanded, offering various levels of support and ownership, with some involving non-dentist investors.

Benefits of Working with a DSO

  • Focus on Patient Care: DSOs manage business tasks, freeing you to concentrate on dentistry.
  • Expert Support: Trained teams handle administrative duties, leading to more efficient practices.
  • Work-Life Balance: DSOs can help achieve a healthier work-life balance by reducing business-related stress.

Choosing the Right DSO

  • Not all DSOs are the same; evaluate their alignment with your values and career goals.
  • Look for DSOs that prioritize patient-centered care and provide a supportive clinical environment.
  • DSOs like Community Dental Partners (CDP) focus on improving access to care and supporting underserved communities.
